Abstract
The engine design technique has undergone, and is continuing to undergo, significant changes. Manufactures are required to bring their products to market in shorter time to exploit marketing opportunities of introducing new technology before competitors do, achieving an early return on investment. The CFD can play a fundamental role in time to market reduction. Starting from this considerations in this paper two different CFD tools are illustrated. Both tools enable the computation of a fully 3D transient compressible multiphase, chemical, reactive and turbulent flow with moving boundary. The first one, named NCF 3D, works on a multi block structured computational grid, while the second one uses an unstructured one. The achieved results have highlighted the potentialities and the limited of each computational tool. Finally the features of an innovative interactive visualization and diagnostic utility is presented.
