Improvement of NO x storage-reduction catalyst

A lean burn and D-4 engine are effective in reducing fuel consumption. NOx storage-reduction catalyst (NSR catalyst) have been developed for these engines. In order to improve the performance of NSR catalyst much more, focusing on suppressing the deterioration by sulfur poisoning, which is one of the main cause of deactivation of NSR catalyst, the sulfur desorption phenomenon has been analyzed from a novel point in this study. From the results of these analyses, we succeed in improving the catalyst performance by new titania with high dispersion and by new zirconia with high heat resistance and enhancement of the basicity.
