Development of hybrid system integrated CVT

This paper presents a new hybrid propulsion system that has been developed to address environmental issues related to the automotive powertrain, based on the view that such systems will be a core automotive technology in the future. The fuel economy of this system under the 10-15 test mode is more than twice that of existing vehicles of the same class. A prominent feature of this hybrid system is a belt-driven continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a built-in electric traction motor. This paper discusses the functional design aspects of the hybrid propulsion system, which shows considerable promise for viable mass production.
