Abstract
This paper describes the current JAA requirements for lightning protection of aircraft, together with a brief history of their evolution. Likely outcome of proposals made through the current FAA/JAA Harmonisation Work Programme with the support of EUROCAE and SAE lightning committees is also shown. Finally a number of possible improvements to those codes are suggested, including the need for further research work.
