Simulating Phase Change with SINDA/G

Abstract
Material phase change must be considered in many thermal applications, and SINDA/G provides basic phase change modeling subroutines. The routines hold the temperature of a multiphase node constant during phase change while the integrated energy absorbed/released is compared to the latent heat capacity of the node. Once the latent heat capacity is exhausted, the temperature is released allowing it to change once again. This method provides useful approximations for many applications, but can be insufficient for simulating phase boundary propagation. This paper illustrates application of the SINDA/G phase change capability. Modeling methods to accurately simulate one-dimensional phase boundary propagation are described with example analyses.
