Abstract
In the future plastic will require an improvement as a material for air intake manifolds due to the advantages in cost and weight compared with metal. New engines observe the future legislative limits of noise emissions, it will be necessary to improve the acoustic behavior of plastic air intake manifolds.
An investigation evaluated alternative and common manufacturing methods. Extensive investigations of different plastic and non-plastic materials have been the foundation of a material database. In the following step FEM/BEM calculations with a model of a simplified inatke manifold have been done to determine design optimizations.
