Abstract
The general trend for the mounting location of powertrain electronics reflects a migration from the traditional passenger and engine compartments to on the engine and transmission. This paper will explore the underlying reasons for this trend, the potential system level benefits of on-engine and on-transmission mounting, and the resulting challenges for the electronic hardware design and development. Additionally, three strategies for managing this transition will be presented and compared.
