In this paper, I propose an innovation strategy for the development of product concepts for new types of instrumentation that may assist the driver to control the vehicle safely even while using the vehicle "entertainment" systems. This strategy is inspired by the concept of "difference engine," a component of a theory of mind developed at MIT: the Society of Mind. In a more practical sense, it is informed by current speedometer use. In short, I argue for the introduction of gauges providing braking and traction feedback to the driver.
