Abstract
Statistic studies show that half of deadly accidents could be avoided by simply improving the protection of the people in the car; secondary safety is not enough. Primary safety, i.e. avoiding accidents, is the indispensable supplement of passive safety the reduction of the number and the seriousness of road accidents. Among other things, primary safety relies on detailed accident studies and their modeling. This paper shows how the DAS approaches the accident clinically and how the DAS data processing, accident modeling, and determination of accident scenarios make it possible to achieve safety specification and provisional evaluation of accident avoidance systems.
