New regulations adopted by some states in North America to reduce pollution from vehicles, are forcing the auto industry to introduce the hybrid electric cars as a temporary solution, before the ""clean"" electric vehicles would become ready for consumers. The FutureCar concept introduced by USA government, in cooperation with the ""Big Three"" automakers is the fist step to solve the future energy shortage and pollution problems caused by vehicles. The paper presents a proposal towards development of low-cost, high-efficiency, low-emission and acceptable comfort mid-size car. The choice of the IC engine, electric motor, drivetrain and control system is described. A prototype vehicle built presently will demonstrate the validity of this concept.
