In this paper we study the nonlinear steady-state dynamic of a reduced finite element model of a brake system subjected to flutter instability. Both the pad and the disc are retained in the model and contact is enforced by a penalty method. A numeric Constrained Harmonic Balance Method (CHBM) is employed to compute the limit cycle responses. Results and computational performances are compared with those from implicit time integration. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, the influence of modal damping for the brake system is carried out.
