- This SAE Standard encompasses connectors between two cables or between a cable and an electrical component and focuses on the connectors external to the electrical component. This document provides environmental test requirements and acceptance criteria for the application of connectors for direct current electrical systems of 50 V or less in the majority of heavy-duty applications typically used in off-highway machinery. Severe applications may require higher test levels, or field-testing on the intended application.

- The test sequences were updated to show only those tests required to validate the connector. It is recognized that additional product examination may be performed during the testing, but is not required except as currently noted. In the case where a test sequence includes both insulation resistance and low voltage resistance, we now allow running two sequences as an alternative. The first sequence would include insulation resistance, the second including low voltage resistance. This will double the sample size for this sequence but may provide some test facilities an advantage when test parts are wired. The previous Ultraviolet Effects test was not well defined and did not specify modern test methodology. The Vibration testing was also clarified to indicate a logarithmic sweep and appropriate fixturing of the wiring harness off the vibration table.
