Scope
This standard covers the requirements for non-separable, airframe anti-friction needle bearings, corrosion resistant and traditional materials, intended for use in flight vehicle control systems, with radial loads. Under Department of Defense (DoD) Policies and Procedures, any qualification requirements and associated Qualified Products Lists (QPLs) are mandatory for DoD contracts. Any material relating to QPLs have not been adopted by SAE and are not part of this SAE technical document.
Rationale
The reason for updating this document is to include AS5927, AS5928, and AS5929 corrosion resistant bearings, update standards referenced in the document and to clarify the definition of Section 3.1.1 Product Change. Additional updates were also done to meet the current SAE Aerospace Technical Report Style Manual dated January 2008.

Issuing Committee
ACBG Rolling Element Bearing Committee
The objective of the Airframe Control Bearing Group (ACBG)is to provide industry experience and state of the art technology for airframe bearings, and issue as appropriate, published documents known as SAE Aerospace Standards. The focus of the Committees is present and future aircraft airframe control systems, bearings, and associated components.
The ACBG shall be responsible for the preparation, development, maintenance and promotion of all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for airframe bearings, control system components, and associated hardware used in the design and construction of aerospace mechanical systems and subsystems. The ACBG shall also coordinate with other organizations for lubricants, control cables, and locking devices and shall utilize and promote the use of specifications published by those organizations. The ACBG shall function as a forum for technology transfer as it affects the Airframe bearing and control systems industry and for the enhancement of distribution channels.Reference
* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
