Rationale
AMS3232 is a compressed asbestos and synthetic rubber material. Asbestos is a hazardous material that should no longer be used. AMS3275 is a nonasbestos replacement material which works in most applications where AMS3232 was used.

The AMS-CE Elastomers Committee maintains Aerospace Materials Specifications (AMS), Aerospace Recommended Practices (ARP), Aerospace Information Reports (AIR) and Aerospace Standards (AS) on elastomeric materials. AMS-CE, which reports to the Aerospace Materials Division, coordinates and maintains liaison with industry, government and other standardization groups on elastomeric materials. A significant part of this committee is concerned with elastomeric fluid sealing materials, their applications, material development, testing, quality, design parameters and design practices.
