Advanced Integrated Fuel System III, Contract # F33615- 94-C-2498, was awarded to Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) by the U. S. Air Force to investigate a new thermal management system based on using a heat exchanger designed to cool 1100°F (593°C) turbine engine bleed air with JP-8+100 fuel (e.g. JP-8 with an additive package that increases fuel thermal stability by 100°F (55°C)). As part of the contract, NGC agreed to test the heat exchanger at the Advanced Reduced Scale Fuel System Simulator facility at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. This paper documents the test conditions and results from the heat exchanger's first 165 hours of operation.
