Improved Synchronizers for Truck Transmissions

Abstract
New materials, enhanced actuation, and innovative mechanisms are contributing to a higher level of performance for transmission gear shifting in trucks. Starting from fundamental principles, this paper describes developments in technology that are improving capability and holding back price increases of the synchronizing function in transmissions for medium duty and heavy duty vehicles.
