Abstract
Federal law and age will force the conversion of 50 million lines of Jovial to Ada during the next 10 years at a cost of more than $1 billion [1]. This paper details the findings of a Jovial to Ada software translation study. It identifies translation issues and presents the results and conclusions of the study. This study was conducted at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace (MDA) in Long Beach and a detail report was developed [2]. This paper comprises of an introduction that outlines the study, a translation tutorial that discusses the languages and dependencies, a discussion of translation methods and tools, and the conclusions and recommendations attained in the effort.
