Abstract
Heavy duty commercial vehicle manufacturers have identified a requirement for a new technology fan clutch for applications where traditional on-off friction clutches or air sensing viscous clutches do not completely satisfy cooling, efficiency or noise reduction performance targets.
This paper presents an overview of a recently-released new concept fan clutch family which uses variable speed viscous clutch technology combined with direct temperature sensing from multiple sources to provide high-efficiency, low-noise cooling for commercial vehicles.
