Diesel Fuel Additives and Emission Reductions in Southern California

This is a statistical analysis of multiple large-scale, on-the-road tests by municipal transit authorities, U.S. Military agencies, and others in California, Arizona, and New York City. From a study of 28 diesel additives three proprietary diesel fuel additives have been identified which consistently yield significant energy savings and opacity improvements at the 95% confidence level. Chassis dynamometer tests support reported fuel savings and associated reductions in NO_x, HC, CO and PM emissions. Use of such additives in the South Coast Basin would save 92 million gallons of diesel fuel annually, and three times that if used statewide in California.
