The FMEA methodology, widely used in projects through the application of DFMEA (Design FMEA), and processes for implementing the PFMEA (Process FMEA), represents a great opportunity to be used in Project Management, recording the experiences and lessons learned in current or past projects in order to prevent the recurrence of project failure.
In this paper we are proposing the improvement of RFMEA (Risk FMEA) to prevent the automotive program mistakes. The main goal of the application of FMEA methodology on project management is to generate an organized way to document the experiences of existing projects and to transform the tacit knowledge of the team that develops projects into explicit knowledge, as well as, prevent future projects from existing critical failure modes.
Due to globalization and the consequent need to launch products in the shortest possible time, project management has been essential for business survival.
The advantage of recording business learning, provides an immeasurable improvement on project management activities, as well as, makes possible the best practices on project development and new products launching. The goal of this article is to demonstrate the advantages, characteristics and practices needs in order to apply FMEA methodology in project management.
