Abstract
Driveline design, e. g. the selection of the rear axle, transmission or engine, have a considerable influence on the performance of a bus, its fuel consumption, and therefore also its exhaust emissions. The data used for the design are of fundamental importance for optimum customization of the driveline to the application.
Comparing these data for different applications worldwide, shows significant differences between traffic situations in South America and Europe, especially for modern high-capacity transport systems like the TransMilenio in Bogotá. Regarding e.g. the different load spectra, it is not possible to simply transfer experience from one area to another. Therefore, the choice of the components is much more important to achieve best availability.
