Authors Abstract
Content
It is very useful to combine the quite simple 0-D approach of internal combustion engine (ICE) simulation with more or less advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. The main aim of this work was to model phenomena, which could not be captured using standard 0-D approach. The influence of intake manifold length on engine parameters was examined applying 1-D pipe model. Computed results were compared with experimental data. Fourier series expansion and simplified acoustic theory (Campbell diagram) were used to take a closer look at pressure oscillation in intake manifold and to find improvement hints to utilize such a manifold.
