The considerably reduced time to market in automotive industries requires a simultaneous development of product and manufacturing processes. This requires amore powerful integration during the development of the product itself and the corresponding manufacturing processes. Existing tool sets like digital mock-up (DMU), line simulation or product simulation support in their special fields the demand of this integration. However, those tools represent stand-alone solutions of todays state of technological development. This paper presents an integrated approach for the simultaneous development of the product and the corresponding manufacturing processes within an integrated digital manufacturing (DMF) environment, which is being elaborated at BMW Group together with strategic partners.
