Abstract
The Nickel-Metal Hydride battery system has achieved significant market penetration for products requiring better performance characteristics than achievable with conventional lead acid and nickel-cadmium batteries. However, conventional prismatic and cylindrical designs for nickel-metal hydride cells and batteries are proving exceedingly expensive to produce and may limit the usefulness of this battery system for further commercial applications. Electro Energy, Inc. (EEI) has developed a Bipolar configuration of the nickel-metal hydride battery chemistry that offers improved performance and lower cost than conventional designs for Terrestrial Applications.
